Dear Future Son-In-Law

Dear Future Son-In-Law,Sarah is 12 now but soon she’ll be old enough to drive and then date, and then get engaged and then get married. And you’re the person she’ll choose to marry. But I’m the first man that has ever loved her. Giving up that title and handing it over to you will not be a very good moment for me. My job these past 12 years has been to be her Dad, to protect her, to love her, to hold her, to encourage her, to bless her, and treat her like the treasure that she is.I’m pretty sure that the day I meet you, I won’t like you. In fact, I probably won’t like you for a good amount of time. But if you really want to marry my daughter, I’m sure I will come around. Sarah is so very precious to me. I want the very best for her in her life. I want her to trust God, honor God, and put Jesus at the center of her marriage and her family.Currently, Sarah’s focus is on her 7th grade math test tomorrow. It’s also on watching Netflix or playing a game on her iPod.  It’s on getting her 25 minutes of reading done each night and on the softball clinic she attends on Tuesday and Thursday Nights. She has ZERO interest in boys right now and I like that. But I know time truly does fly by and that’s going to change very soon. Each night, I cherish the 5-10 minutes we spend together in prayer and discussion. I usually get on the end of her bed and tuck her in. We talk about the happenings of each day and always end in prayer.  Sometimes we both pray, sometimes I only pray, but we always spend that time together each night. My prayer is that you are a man who puts God first. I pray that you develop such a deep and intimate relationship with the Lord that you just want to continue to pursue him every single day. That pursuit will allow you to love my daughter in an amazing and powerful way. It will allow you to see her as God sees her. Beautiful and cherished. A masterpiece. Because when I hand her to you, I'm not only fully stepping back and giving you my little girl, but I'm also asking you to be a part of our family. I'm excited for the times I'll get to spend with you and welcome you in as the son I never had. I'm excited thinking about the first time we embrace as I congratulate you on our grandchild. I'm excited for the family gatherings and all the memories we'll make once you're in my life. One of my favorite verses in the bible is Proverbs 3:5-6. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your path straight" -- I pray you will take this verse and make it your own, make it one with your wife, make it one with your children.Life won't be perfect, but life will be great knowing that you strive to love Jesus, my daughter and my grandchild with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.I love you future son-in-law, but always remember that Sarah is and always will be, my little girl.[embed]https://twitter.com/JasonRomano/status/408215907786567681[/embed]
